AP Studio Art is a college-level arts course. AP students must demonstrate exceptional motivation, originality, and creativity, along with the desire to thrive and succeed in a rigorous academic and student-centered arts environment. Students develop research skills through show and gallery visits, print and electronic media, and cyber resources. Periods of art history, styles, and individual artist are studied in depth and are reflected in each student's portfolio concentration. Portfolio selections shall demonstrate a student's problem solving ability and his/her critical thinking skills; the portfolio shall also reveal the "affect" which the student has sought to convey. Students create a minimum of 30 original, high quality, two- and three-dimensional pieces. The portfolio must reflect the breadth of media and skills expertise as well as the student's unique specialization (concentration) in media, subject and structure of their academic experience, as reflected in daily work and the portfolio.
