The Advance Placement Program in U.S history is defined to provide students with the analytic skills and factual knowledge necessary to deal critically with the problems and materials in United States history. The program prepares students for intermediate and advance college courses, and makes demands equivalent to those made by full-term introductory college courses. Students will learn to assess historical material--their relevance to a given interpretive problem, their reliability, and their importance and weigh evidence and interpretation presented in historical scholarships. The Advance Placement United States History course will develop the skills necessary to arrive at conclusions on the basis of informed judgment and to present reasons and evidence clearly and persuasively in essay format.
