Athletics complements the total educational program by providing an opportunity for students to become more responsible citizens in their home and community, and on the athletic field and campus. Athletics provides recognition and achievement which would, perhaps, not be possible elsewhere in school life.

The coaches and administration of Century High School believe that discipline provides the foundation for a successful team. Discipline is like the foundation of a house: nothing lasting can be built without it.

Three common elements essential to a successful season are at the heart of Century's Athletic Codes. These elements are that students should (1) know the rules, (2) behave responsibly and (3) show good human relations. The coaches feel that athletes must be aware of the rules of participation. The coaches believe that athletes learn to be responsible when (1) athletes are given opportunities to be responsible, (2) athletes have choices, (3) clear communication exists between the athlete, coach and athletic director, (4) athletes understand specific limits and (5) consequences are clear and constant.

We must create an environment that is conducive to a higher goal than a win-at-all-cost atmosphere. If we are successful in this, we will have attained a more lasting mark than any championship could ever bring.
