Lunch Time Pep Rally The 2002 Homecoming turned out to be one for the memory books, but not because of the Pep rally, the pre-game, the game itself or even the halftime extravaganza. What will always make this one to talk about was the fact that it happened amidst a huge rain storm. Activities were planned the entire day on Friday, October 8th. There were plans for a noon time pep rally which involved the band, color guard, drumline, pep squad, USB members, and of course the football team. After it was stated that the game had been cancelled due to weather, and then reinstated as "oops, the football team can play in the rain", the pep rally went on. The students gathered at the far end of the campus and marched through and around the quad area ending at the stramp. There, the band and color guard performed the fight song and other pieces to pep the team up. The football team performed their huddle cheers and wound themselves into a frenzy. Fun was had by all and it was nice to see some school spirit displayed, even if the weather was wet. Senior members of the Band, Drumline, Colorguard, Cheer and Football teams were acknowledged for their contributions to their respective groups in the past years. For each of these groups, it was their last home game performance. Each member was escorted down the center of the field, between the human 03, honoring the Class of 2003. Pre-game came to a conclusion with the playing of the National Anthem and Fight Song leading into the start of the football game. The opposing football team was the Anaheim High School team. Homecoming Pre-game Photo Album Homecoming Extravaganza The Band, Colorguard and United Student Body collaborated to produce and perform the Halftime Show which ran with the theme of Homecoming "Moonlight Masquerade". The USB students met several times with the band in early morning rehearsals to block and time the show. The show consisted of Renaissance Dancers, Modern Dancers and the band and color guard acting as the backdrop to the stage. They were decked out in masks and dressed in all black. Due to the inclement weather, many of the props that had been planned for the evening were cancelled. The royal court arrived on foot from the stands rather than by float which was the original plan. The show went off without a hitch and the audience, although cold and wet, remained enthusiastic for their royal court. The crowning of the King and Queen took place. This year's King is Vincent Hernandez and this year's Queen is Veronica Rivera. The King and Queen were crowned by Dr. Bratcher and last year's Homecoming Queen Gracy Castellanos. The royal court left the field and entered the stands to the adoration of their many fans. Although they missed out on a ride off the field in a Hummer, the evening was one to remember. Unfortunately, our football team came up short and were defeated by Anaheim, but they never gave up and continued to play hard throughout the game. We are proud of them for giving their all. |
