Purpose of the assignment:
It's Magic was an evaluation paper I
wrote in my sophomore English class and revised during my senior year to meet
the Senior Exit Portfolio requirement.
In this assignment, I was required to assume the role of a book critic.
To write an effective evaluation essay, it was necessary to orient my reader by
thoroughly describing the book, formulate an opinion about the book I had read
and convince my audience of its validity.
I chose to evaluate the book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J. K. Rowling, which I had read for book
club.
Reflection: It's Magic is a significant piece for
me. In my four years in high
school, this book report has become my favorite written pieces of work;
therefore, I chose to include it in my portfolio. One of the reasons this particular piece is so memorable is
because I had fun throughout the entire process. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone remains one of the most enjoyable books I
have ever read. Being required to evaluate my opinion regarding this book has
taught me to look at all aspects of life with a critical eye. I used to merely make quick
judgments. I am particularly proud
of this assignment and confident the reader will share in my enthusiasm for it
as well.
