Purpose of the assignment:  Memory Snapshot is an example of a biographical narrative. The task was to create a written mental snapshot that captured a personal experience as seen in a favorite photograph. The story was to focus on a specific time. I had to describe the action by including dialogue and rich sensory detail. In addition, it was necessary to show the memory’s significance. Furthermore, I was required to share my story with my class by creating a poster board and giving an oral presentation.

Reflection:  Memory Snapshot has become one of my favorite pieces. I really enjoyed writing about the time I spent in Ireland with my family and having the opportunity to share a memorable experience with my classmates. From this assignment, I learned the importance of describing my experience in detail. I learned the difference between telling a story and really showing what happened by using descriptive language and capturing the action. In addition, I learned how to write dialogue. Most importantly, I felt like a real author because I had the opportunity to share my story with others. I received many compliments. This experience has encouraged me to write more. I gained confidence after telling my story to the class. I don’t feel as intimidated as I used to when standing in front of the class and giving a presentation.  If I were to do this kind of assignment again, I would work on including more descriptive language in my story and my oral presentation skills.
