Attendance
Attendance at Century High School is a priority! We cannot fulfill our responsibility to educate our students Iif they do not attend school. HOURS FOR STUDENT RE-ADMITS:
The Attendance Office will be open for re-admits beggining at 6:45 a.m. If students attempt to attend class without a re-admit, they will be sent to the office and will be assigned a detention for not coming to class prepared, teacher passes will not be honored.

STUDENTS' RESPONSIBILITY FOR CLEARING ABSENCES:
It will be the responsibility of the student to report to the attendance office after each absence. It is expected that the student will bring a note excusing the absence. even if the students does not have a not, he/she must be cleared through the Attendance Office and get an unexcused re-admit. Students will be given ONE DAY to provide a note before the absence becomes a truancy! Failure to clear an absence within one day of returning will result in a trancy and a Saturday School assingment. Students who are assigned a truancy lose their right to make up the class work grades may suffer. It is the students responsibilty to find out which assignments were missed during non-truancy absences. For these excused absences, students will have an equal number of days to turn in assignments(example-if you are sick for two days, you have two days upon returning to turn in you missed work). Century teachers will not accept late work; work will be considered late after the allotted time.

STUDENT RELEASE FROM SCHOOL:
Century High School is closed campus, A parent note is required for any student to leave the Century School campus for any reason. If a student needs to leave campus for denal or medical appointment, a note is required. Students need to present the note to the attendance office before 7:50 a.m. to receive an off-campus pass. Students will not be allowed to go to the aAttendance Office for an off-campus pass during class. No off-campus passes will be issued to any student to go off campus during lunch(even to 18 year old students). Parents who wish to have students released from school may call the Attendance Office in advance to speed up the process.
Students who are released for a dental or medical appointment will be expected to return on the same day. Students who do not, will be assigned a Saturday School to make up the hours of school attendance.
Students will not be released early from school except for those students who have an early dismissal schedule from their counselor. Any students who leaves aschool early will be assigned a Saturday School to make up attendance.
Students who accumulate excessive absences (more than five days) will be assigned an equal for Saturday Schools. Students who are truant from school will be assigned A Saturday School for each offense.

PHONE MESSAGES/CALL TO OR FROM STUDENTS:
The Atendance Office receives many calls from parents each day. The Attendance staff can no longer take messages from parents to students. If an emergency situation exists, parents must tell the attendance staff the nature of the problem and they will determined whether or not the student needs to be called out of class or given the message. The attendance staff will NOT act as a message service for students. Students will not be allowed to use the school phones for personal reasons. All student calls must be made from the pay phones. (Pay phones will NOT be in operation during class time.)

PARENT INQUIRIES REGARDING THEIR STUDENT'S ATTENDANCE:
We encourage any parent to call and inquire about their student's attendance record. The attendance Office is staffed with bilingual staff members who can be reached at (714) 568-7012 or (714) 568-7013. parents interested in verifying their student's attendadnce are encourage to call on Mondays or Fridays after 8:30 a.m. Anytime you call the Attendance Office for attendance information about your child, please provide their complete name and student number.

PARENTS RESPONSIBILITY FOR MONITORING AND EXCUSING THEIR STUDENT'S ABSENCE:
We expect you student to be in school everyday. The Century High School staff and the State of California believe that the parent is responsible for their student's attendance. If your student is ill and misses school, he/she will need a note explaining the reason for the absence. the signed note must be sent with your student the first day he/she returns to school. I must explain fully why your student missed school, the date(s) missed, and be signed by you the parent. Parents of 18 year old students must signed a form provided by the Assistant Principal indicating that they are aware that their student can sign his/her own notes.
The only acceptable reasons to miss school are illness, medical/dental appointment, death in the immediate family, or jury duty for 18 year old students.
If your student is a truant from school, he/she will be assigned Saturday Work Program and their grades may be affected. Failure to Attend SWP assignments will result in a suspension and a parent conference (yor studnt will not be admitted back to school with out a parent conference, no matter how long it takes for you to set up an appointment). Only in rare cases will older brothers, sisters, uncles, etc., be allowedto attend a suspension conference in place of the parent.

TARDINESS:
Students need to be in calss on time. Tardiness will not be tolerated. If you bring yours student to school, please get him/her here on time. School starts at 8:00 a.m. It is very disruptive to the educational process of EVERY student to have students arrive late to class. Tardy sweeps will be conducted periodically, at random, without notice. These sweeps may be done at the beginning of the school day or anytime throughout the day.
Students "picked up" in a tardy will receive a SWP assignment (in addition to any other consequences that tardy may carry). Students who are repeatly "picked up" in tardy sweeps will be seen by an administrator for more serious consequences.

PERFECT ATTENDANCE REWARD PROGRAM:
We have a perfect attendance award program to reward those students that have no

absences and no tardiness for each six week grading period. Please encourage your student to mantain perfect attendance. It has been proven that there is a direct link between good attendance and learning.
