CENTURY'S CROSS COUNTRY TEAM

This years Cross Country team has had their good and bad moments. But one thing is clear, this years Cross Country team has practiced a lot and that makes them feel confident so that they should place in the top three in The Orange League Finals.

Even though all the top runners from the past have left there is always another group of runners that want to carry the tradition that was passed on to them. That is what makes cross country fun and challenging because each group of runners tries to show all the talent that they have learned to other groups during their races.

The coaches feel great and confident in this years Cross Country team, they also feel that with a little more of an effort and hard work the team should meet their goal in becoming "THE BEST OF THE BEST".

Every summer since Coach Cush arrived the team has trainned in the hardest hills in Big Bear and in Irvine Park. The team spends one week in Big Bear during the summer and during that period of time the team is expected to run two times a day. Their first run is like around 6 a.m. and the time between 8 a.m. and 5:25 p.m. they can do what ever they feel like doing. For example they can play Ping-Pong, video games, or play pool but you should keep in mind that everyone should cook at least one time and you also have to help when it's time to clean or to wash the dishes.

Compare the diference in the picture where the runners are streching and the picture where they are at the top. Notice that not all of them made it to the top of the mountain. After practicing for a long week the last run that they are expected to do is the tower run. This run mostly takes anywhere from 30-55 minutes going up hill and about 25-35 minutes going down hill. For this run the team has to wake-up a little earlier than they are used to.

QUOTES FROM THE GREATEST ATHLETES

Coach Christian uses this quote from one of the best runners that had a very difficult time to get to the top, but by thinking that he could do it he accomplish it.He also has a quote of his own that expresses to a his students and to his team.

"I would rather have an athlete that puts in the effort in running... over talent any day of the week." - Coach Christian Cushing-Murray
"Running is not about winning, it's about guts...
